Gear Coffee Roaster
Our Story
At Gear Coffee Roaster, we believe great coffee starts long before the roast. It starts with a relationship — with the farmer, the land, and the story behind every bean.
We source single-origin coffees from small farms around the world, selecting only lots with full traceability from farm to bag. Every coffee we carry has a name, a place, and a person behind it. That's not a marketing claim — it's how we buy.
In the roastery, we treat every lot as its own puzzle — adjusting time, temperature, and airflow to let each origin speak for itself. No house profile. No shortcuts.
We've been doing this since 1993, when Mike trained under a master roaster in Pittsburgh's Strip District — learning to roast by batch, not by profile. Today, we work closely with our buyer and broker to ensure every bean we source meets our exacting standards for quality and full traceability before it ever reaches the roaster.
Small-Batch Roasted
We roast in small batches to ensure every order is fresh and every roast is dialed in. No sitting in a warehouse. No guessing on freshness. When you order from Gear, you're getting coffee roasted with intention.
What We Look For
- Traceability: We know where every bean comes from — down to the farm or cooperative.
- Quality: We cup every lot before we commit. If it doesn't meet our standard, it doesn't make the cut.
- Character: We look for coffees with something to say — distinct flavors, unique origins, and a story worth sharing.
Our Coffees
From the fruit-forward brightness of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe to the wine-like complexity of Bolivian La Paz, our rotating lineup reflects the best of what's available each season. Every bag is an invitation to explore a new corner of the coffee world.
